Michael Arena is the VP Talent & Development for Amazon Web Services (AWS). He is responsible for the global talent, leadership development, and new employee success solutions necessary to enable growth and innovation of AWS. Prior to this he was the chief talent officer at General Motors where he employed an evidence-based approach to driving organizational performance, leveraging such concepts as predictive analytics and network analysis to empirically determine talent needs across the pipeline. Arena also launched GM2020, which is a grassroots initiative designed to enable employees to connect and create across the organization and was highlighted in Fast Company and Fortune Magazine. In addition to his current responsibilities at AWS, Arena also teaches in Penn’s MS in Organizational Dynamics program.
He is also the author of the best selling book Adaptive Space, which is based on a decade long research initiative that won the 2017 Walker Prize from People + Strategy.
